World best board game

Chess, an abstract strategy game which involves no hidden information. It is played on a square chess board with 64 squares arranged in 8-by-8 grid and each player has 16 pieces: one king, one queen, two knight, two bishops, two rooks and 8puns. Each of these pieces has the way they operate and they also have their worth.

A pawn

Pawns – The small piece usually on the front row at the beginning of every game. They move one step forward at a time except at the start of the game in which they can move up to two steps forward. They can attack their opponent piece that is one step diagonally to them.

The rook

Rooks – They are always at the bottom corner of the chessboard at the start of the game. They are dangerous because they can move forward, backwards and sideways and there’s no limit to how far they can go. They can attack any opponent piece in their way.

Knight – Always beside the two rooks at the start of the game. Most professional players usually watch out for the knight because knights are cunning and dangerous. They are the only piece that can attack a queen and the queen would not be attacking back this is because the knights move in an L shape way. Attacking any player that is at the tail of the L shape.

Bishops – The are always located beside the queen and king. They are like snipers in a normal chess match. The bishop has no restriction in distance for each move, but is limited to diagonal movement.

Queen – The most valuable chess piece (excluding the king). It has the ability of both rook and bishop, worth 9points in a standard chess match and the most dangerous piece in chess.

The king

King – There is only one king piece in the game and all other pieces are subjected to protect the king. The king can only move in all the boxes around itself. If the king is under attack by the opponent and there is no safer Zone for the king to move to, then that means the opponent is the winner and they usually call it a CHECKMATE.

Some advantages of playing chess

  • It helps to improve your concentration
  • It helps in strategic thinking
  • Improves problem solving skills.

Chess does not really have any disadvantages, but the only problem is that only two people can play chess on a single board at a time and it also requires much practice to master chess.
