Why Is Grass Green?

Green Grass 1The grass is green because of the chlorophyll that is produced inside of the grass makes it green. As well as the chlorophyll the light also affects the colour of the grass. The grass absorbs the red and blue colours and reflects the colour green.

The chlorophyll in the grass allows the grass to go through photosynthesis. Photosynthesis is the natural process plants go through so they can sustain themselves. Photosynthesis occurs when a plant has enough water and carbon dioxide. The result of photosynthesis is glucose and oxygen. Grass contributes to the oxygen that is in the air and remains evergreen in the winter.

Grass is good for animals and the green colouring of the grass helps the herbivores see it. This allows the animals to grow up and get fat so that the predator can eat them. Another benefit of grass is that it is an easy thing to add to a garden and it makes a garden look nice. A bad thing about grass is when it get burned and dried up and basically dies the grass becomes a yellow colour due to the lack of chlorophyll in the grass.
