This is a simple painting that consists of the three colours in the name. It was sold in a private sale to the Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev at the of 140,000,000 Euros. At the time, this was the second most expensive painting to be sold. However, it has dropped down, since then, to the third most expensive painting to be sold.

This is another painting which is owned by someone in Qatar. This painting is one of five oil paintings which was painted by Paul Cezanne and is worth somewhere between $250,000,000 to $300,000,000. This price is estimated between those values because the price was undisclosed when purchased in 2011.

1 – “Nafea Faa Ipoipo” painted by Paul Gauguin

The most expensive painting to be sold is an oil painting which was painted in 1892. The reason it is the most expensive paint sold is because it was sold for $300,000,000 to an undisclosed buyer. This painting name ‘Na Faa Ipoipo’ translates to ‘Will you marry me’. It currently in the Beyeler Foundation Museum in Riehen, Switzerland.


Although there are many paintings sold at a high price, there is a large difference in value between the painting sold at the highest price and the painting with the most value. The painting that is worth the most is the ‘Mona Lisa’ painting by Leonardo da Vinci which is believed to be worth more than $850 million. It was painted during the renaissance period in 1503. After that, has sat on display in the Louvre Museum. This is certainly more expensive then any of the sold paintings.
