14 members have been charged with corruption following the re-election of the president of FIFA, including 7 powerful officials.
This comes only 4 days after he was re-elected to continue his role as the head of the governing body for the largest sport in the world.
Reports also claim that FIFA’s General Secretary, Jerome Valcke, was the one in charge of an alleged payment of a £6m bribe to allow South Africa to host the world cup in 2010, though he denies this.
Swiss authorities are launching their own investigation in to the way the 2018 and 2022 world cups were allocated.
Blatter has said that he won’t be stepping down from his post until a new president has been elected, which, according to FIFA rules, the earliest this could happen is in 4 months
Domenico Scala, the chairman of FIFA’s audit and compliance committee has stated “The expectation is that this could take place anytime from December of this year to March of next year.”
