In just four years the number of Metro link stations have soared from 38 to 92 and there are now 57 exclusive miles of track across the Greater Manchester Area, The Metrolink is booming and has smashed previous records as the system continues to rise and grow across Greater Manchester. In the year up to April 31.2m passengers opted for the tram, a 6.8 per cent rise on the previous year when a lower amount of 29.2m voyages were made. The figures recently released have proven how the Metrolink has developed in the past five years, in 2010/11 the people who opted for this travelling option had 38 stations and 25 miles of track open to them. Now in 2014/15 the number of stations has rose to 92 and the covers 57 miles. Passengers made an extra 12m journeys on Metrolink last year compared to the boom for years ago. These figures were all assisted by the launch of the new 15-stop Manchester Airport Line, which guided more than 266,000 passengers in just the first few revolutionised release months. Metrolink is now the largest light rail network in the UK, it covers almost 60 miles, with a platoon of nearly 100 trams.
