Republic of Ireland striker Robbie Keane’s cousin was killed working in a sewer yesterday. Alan Harris the father of two was drowned by fumes, which is believed to be methane gas, this is when he began to inspect underground pipes in a Portmarnock Housing estate, his brother Stephen was on the job with him and was made unconscious by the noxious gases but was rescued by the fire crews which arrived on the scene.

Stephen is believed to be in a serious condition in Beaumont Hospital in North Dublin, the Republic of Ireland striker has not spoken about this tragedy, and has since trained with the Republic squad today in Malahide, which is only a few miles from the scene of the family tragedy, the Football Association has confirmed the link between the families.

Mr Harris was in his early 40s and the owner of his own company which is known as DrainTech – a company specialising in drainage clearance and sewer unblocking in Dublin for more than 20 years. There are two ongoing investigations into the death of Alan Harris, one by garda and the other by the Health and Safety Authority.
