England 2022 World Cup Bid

England have announced that they are now ready to host the 2022 World Cup but only if they strip it from Qatar. This has been announced after the rise of allegations of corruption and bribery in Fifa, John Whittingdale, and Culture Secretary has said.

Mr Whittingdale has said the countries has the capable facilities and has mounted what is said to be an impressive, yet unsuccessful bid, to host the 2018 World Cup, and this means they could host the 2022 world event if they are asked to do so by Fifa.

He spoke as MPs have asked whether England could step in to host the World Cup if allegations that bribery has helped decide the bid process for the Qatar are true. Mr Whittingdale has been quoted as saying England “obviously” has the facilities to host the world’s biggest football tournament, which was last held in the country in 1966. Mr Whittingdale has said there would be a “very strong” case for rerunning the process of bidding for the 2022 World Cup if the original process was corrupt.

The Culture Secretary has announced this two days after Fifa President Sepp Blatter announced he would stand down, but John Whittingdale said Blatter’s resignation was only the beginning of what is said to be the reforming of Fifa.
