COVID-19 : Greater Manchester Forced Into Tier 3 Lockdown

Coronavirus: Greater Manchester Forced To Move Into Tier 3 Lockdown by PM.

Greater Manchester will move into a  COVID-19 Tier 3 lockdown from Friday, which the government has confirmed.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced that the region will receive a £22m financial support package. During his press conference.

Additionally speaking from Downing Street, Boris Johnson said “its additional to other support”.

The announcement comes after talks between Greater Manchester’s political leaders and the government came to no agreement. The 12-noon deadline passed today without a general agreement.

Furthermore, Housing and Communities Secretary, Robert Jenrick, tweeted that discussion with Greater Manchester has failed to produce a deal. This is because Greater Manchester is ‘unwilling to take action required’.

Mayor Andy Burnham said he went into negotiations prepared to accept £75million compared to the £22million.

The government offered £60m, he said after consultation between Mr Burnham and council leaders. Greater Manchester leaders said they would accept £65million.

However, the government would not budge and walked away, said Andy Burnham.

The most server Tier 3 restrictions will not be imposed on 2.8million residents in Greater Manchester, without a general agreement from politicians in the area.
