If your wordpress website doesn’t work, the first thing you will need to check is the .htaccess file.
Step 1: logon to your cpanel or to an FTP client “Please note! If you use an FTP client e.g. Dreamweaver, FileZilla, CoreFTP (Windows OS), Cyberduck (Mac OS) or any other FTP (File Transfer Protocol client) the process is the same”.

Step 2: select the public_html or the www directory (another word for Directory is “Folder”)

Step 3: Locate/Find the file called:
.htaccess  (please note that if you can see the .htaccess file, at the top right corner of your window, there is a button called “Settings“, click on “Settings” button and then tick the checkbox: “Show Hidden Files” and then select the “Save” button).
Now you can see the .htaccess, file Right click with your mouse and then select the ‘Edit‘ option (or just double click the .htaccess file).
(please note that if the file doesn’t exist, you will need to right click with your mouse and select the create a new file option. Save the file as a “.htaccess” and the proceed to the next step.

Step 4: Copy the following code:
